An undisputed "major work" that garnered legit Platinum US sales, top 5 in 18 other countries and "best of the year" critic plaudits. Modern Times has receded into history now 19 years gone. Alicia Keys is still a modern recording artist and her namecheck on "Thunder On The Mountain" still gives one pause even if her last big hit was "Girl on Fire" in 2012. Music has a way of melting decades and easy access has accelerated this.
Bob took "Thunder On The Mountain" on the road many years after this album became "catalog." His all-seeing eye banner unfurled at the introductory band warm-up rumble whether or not Charlie Sexton was tumbling or rolling along with Tony Garnier and crew. The only song that didn't make the live cut was "Someday Baby" which was among the more rocking songs on the record. Maybe my favorite at least after Thunder.
Pondering and reflection are the name of the game here. Nettie Moore and Jerry Garcia and someone real or imaginary telling Bob he is past his prime.
Show 'em what YOU got.
