Back in 1993 the release of a live record seemed more of an event than an archival dump and this was compounded by everybody getting on the MTV Unplugged wagon.  Dylan did it. Nirvana did it.  Neil did it too.

When Unplugged sold a couple months ago, I really didn't feel like listening to it.  Don't get me wrong I love Neil acoustic, but I just wasn't excited about the old warhorses like "The Needle and the Damage Done," "Helpless," "Like A Hurricane" (with a Spooner Oldham pump organ), "Long May You Run" and even "Pocohontas" trotted out for a showcase unplugged set.

Upon further review, the set is a bit more artful and less generic-Neil (if such a thing is possible).  The show opens with "The Old Laughing Lady" from his first solo album after Buffalo Springfield and right into their warhorse "Mr. Soul."  Then you get Tonight's The Nights "World On A String" before shaking the rust off "Pocahontas."  "Transformer Man" de-Transed is a nice add.  Harvest Moon was the new album at the time so you get the title track and "From Hank To Hendrix" as a closer.

Reasonably good performance, but little to pick this once again over other live records or retrospectives in the archive that are now available.

You can't say that about, say, Live Rust or Decade.
