"Out on the road today/I saw a Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac..."
This record had 5 hits, none of which I could stand. "The Boys of Summer" made my skin crawl and forcing myself a start to finish listen to this in headphones was an exercise for sure, which is why I did it.
Would I discover anything? I have to admit, I've had it in for Henley since the Eagles first broke up even though I still straight up like The Long Run start to finish, hits included. Not even Dylan covering "The End of Innocence" live could soften my cold cold heart for Henley's solo years. I can't remember how this made it's way into my collection, whether discarded records, or a pile found in the street which happens in NYC from time to time or did before the "vinyl frenzy" of recent years.
So anyway, you have the 3 wretched overheard hits, the aforementioned Summer, as well as "Sunset Grill" and "All She Wants To Do Is Dance" with full on totally 80's synths n' robotic horns. I forgot about two other AOR hits from that time: "Driving With Your Eyes Closed" and "Not Enough Love In The World" which I buried in my memory, what? 37 years??
The countrified "You're Not Drinking Enough" kept me from administering my first F for the Reverse Collector. Maybe I could summon the courage to give this album a D+ but even that seems a bit too high.
That's the way it goes.
