When I first heard this album in the early 80's, I thought it was bad "theatre music."  Except the reality is it wasn't so bad.  In fact, there are some standards and excellent material.

"Sitting In The Midday Sun" is probably the biggest "hit" here.  "Daylight" and "Sweet Lady Genevieve" are excellent tracks as well in the early part of the record. Johnny Thunder rides down the highway in "One Of The Survivors."  

What the fuck is it all about?  I really have no idea.  I've never been able to follow the plot from any of the RCA years.  I know it speaks of vaudevillian characters of yore and 1973, but fleshed into a comprehensive theme with meaning?  "Cricket" embodies this as does the Dylan-Alright Ma with horns "There's A  Change In The Weather."  Flash is a bad villain, that we know.  Why does he exist?  Why does anything??

Still there is a bit of relief to not have everything be a concise corporate block, and for that this era is a welcome transition of English eccentric rock to British Arena Rock of the Arista years.

Just don't ask me what it's really about.
