I got this 2nd press UK Rubber Soul back in the pre-CD era in the early 80's circa 1983 with A Hard Day's Night and Beatles For Sale clearly from the same collection. This is the last of the 3 to sell and it took 10 years. Beatles For Sale had a typo and went for 500, A Hard Days Night went for 200 and this one dropped all the way down to 100 although the median was a little higher. I think the buyer got a discount for this nice copy and the person that got $377 and change for this lucked out. I had it priced higher over the years, but that's the way it goes.
The album of course is flawless. People make a cottage industry in TikTok hits doing feminist critiques of "Run For Your Life" but hell, it was good enough for Nancy Sinatra so it was good enough for the world.
The UK version wasn't merged with the US edition until 1987, so for many years there was a truncated version with a very different feel opening with "I've Just Seen A Face" which was already out there on the Help! album instead of "Drive My Car." That made the record seem more of a nod to folk rock/Dylan than it truly was. Yeah, he was coming on at the same time and highly influential, sure, but this wasn''t that if you know what I mean. I the US this has been certified Platimum 6 times over but most of that certification has been in the CD era, so I'm not sure how the RIAA counts each version. Sometimes they will split them up, sometimes not.
There is no arguing with perfection.
