I got this 8-track in the past year, I believe in a small, very good condition Beatles lot. This was on Capitol, not Apple, so that would date it sometime after the mid-70's when that label stopped and the catalog went back to the mothership. The listing on Discogs says 1970, but the catalog was on Apple then. I can't find any evidence of there being an Apple 8-track since the album originally was released on Capitol in late 1967 and Apple on vinyl in the US in 1971 and back to Capitol in 1977. The early Capitol 8-tracks had a white shell and this has a black one plus has the look of a later 70's Capitol release just from the eye test and general condition.
The changes are the track order and "I Am The Walrus" get split up between tracks 2 and 3. Instead of a fade you get a cut and restart with the bell going into the "sitting in my English garden..." which is kind of neat. The Beatles 8-track edits would make a great bootleg or box set bonus tracks.
Talking about sequence is a little weird because the UK version was a double 7" and the US version with soundtrack cuts on side 1 and singles of the time period on side 2 were what came out on compact disc in 1987 and subsequent remasters. On 8-track the tracks are all jumbled up for programing length.
"Magical Mystery Tour" opens both album and 8-track, but then "Blue Jay Way" and "Your Mother Should Know" round out track one kicking "The Fool On The Hill" after the end of "I Am The Walrus" on track 3. Track two starts the non-film tracks "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Baby You're A Rich Man" before Walrus Pt. 1. and track 3 wraps with "Hello Goodbye." Track 4 goes back to the film for "Flying" then closes with "Penny Lane" and "All You Need Is Love." It should be noted that 6 track double 7" had "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Your Mother Should Know" on side 1, "I Am The Walrus" on side 2, "The Fool On The Hill" and "Flying" on side 3 and "Blue Jay Way" on side 4. The US full length was Magical/Fool/Flying/Blue/Mother/Walrus on Side 1 and Hello/Strawberry/Penny/Baby/Love on Side 2.
I guess all that is left for you to do is watch the movie.
