Classic parody soundtrack from the 1978 Eric Idle film co-written with Neil Innes, The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash. George Harrison had a cameo appearance as an interviewer and Mick Jagger, Ron Wood, Paul Simon and most of the original Saturday Night Live cast make an appearance. The life story of the Beatles in a parallel universe made when all 4 of them were still alive.
The 13 songs are great on their own, but the brilliance is how they incorporate key elements of Beatles songs throughout their history while maintaining their individuality as its own song. My favorite today is one I ignored all these years, the Ringo parody "Living In Hope." "All My Loving" becomes "Hold My Hand" with a Sgt. Pepper style orchestra warm up intro to kick off the album. "Number One" inverts "Twist and Shout." The Lennon piano of "A Day In The Life" is nicked with the strings of "The Long and Winding Road" and the guitars of "She Came In Through The Bathroom Window" to create a song with abstract lyrics. Do I have to spell it out?
