Hipgnosis, the famous prog-rock designer of the 70's did this artwork. Mojo did an interview with Roger Waters reminiscing that after viewing Po's concepts, describing dead ducks nailed to the wall disparagingly, Gilmour issued a challenge to come up with something better. Roger apparently had the floating pig idea the rest is Animals history.
But what of the idea of the dead ducks nailed to the wall? Well, it appears that 17 years later the idea, if not the actual art, was rehashed for this Drag City compilation of unreleased tracks from it's 1994 roster. You get heavyweights like Pavement, Royal Trux, Silver Jews, Red Red Meat and Red Krayola as well as the most memorable track on the album which was by Smog entitled "Your Face" as in "your face when you came" and yes he was talking about (fake) orgasm face not arrival.
I remembered that track and little else on this, surprisingly even peak-period Royal Trux with the crypically named "Δ70 Of ♥'s." We do find that it is DELTA send me your HEARTS. A card player's anthem.
Most of these acts I had purchased their actual releases or at least given them radio airplay. How do you describe this, left field mainstream indie?
Feedback, plaintive and forlorn crooners mostly still active 30 years on.
