The leadoff from what I feel is the last great Pavement album, Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. This single EP has been folded into the 2004 deluxe reissue LA Desert Origins which I wrote about previously in this blog a couple years back. I stopped at Slanted and Enchanted Redux and that one I got as a consignment collection sale.
The vinyl of this matches the CD single track wise, so there really wasn't any reason to get this, looked like it was a duplicate promo that found it's way into my collection. I'm pretty sure I bought the 45 at some point when it came out.
The A-side is a classic band standard, with a nice little guitar lick that mimics the lyric tangentially against the verse. The B-side has a winner and a clunker. "Camera" is excellent. It reminds me of the band Red Red Meat in a lo-fi sludge dragging blues. "Stare" has a base that sounds like a Casio autodrum bed.
It is what it is.
