I don't usually set the bar on the low end of the price scale, but somehow I cut this single price down to $6.99 over the last 4 years.  I was big on Will Oldham's Palace output primarily in the mid-90's and this single was during my peak fandom which lasted around the time the Palace moniker became simply Will Oldham.

This particular single is a pair of thematic covers, which I didn't realize were covers until this very day.  The A-side is from the Mekons Timm's and Langford and the B-side is from Eric Stross, whose output, including Boyracer,  I managed to ignore completely.

The A-side is excellent, the B-side less so.  I probably played them both on WFDU.  I know Palace Brothers and Viva Last Blues I was very much into, and played them heavily on the radio.  But my interest started to tail off around Arise Therefore, and by the time I bought Joya in 1997, it was going through the motions music buying.  I'm trying to remember if I ever saw Palace.  I saw a Drag City night at Tramps in NYC  in the mid-90's, but all I seem to remember is Smog playing "Red Apple Falls."  This is all the more funny to me because I preferred Palace to Smog in the 90's, but somehow I prefer Bill Callahan to Will Oldham now.

  1. It almost doesn’t matter who it is, but after awhile anybody’s output gets worn around the edges and it’s time to move on ....and go to the bar to get a drink
