Classic chugging title track, among the best this band had to offer.  One of two 12" inch eps that got compiled into Music For Insect Minds and forgotten as an individual artifact certainly in the digital realm.  This EP clocking in under 10 minutes total sounds better apart from everything else.

The other twin tower, Garbage Rock was my initiation to Halo of Flies.  I remember skimming over this "new band" on Twin/Tone at 4 in the morning on air when the EP came into the station.  It sounded so loud and raw, I took to the song "Garbage Rock" immediately.  When Headburn came out, WICN didn't get it, but I found it in the record bin new on a trip to Second Coming Records on Mass Ave in Cambridge.   Some records you just remember every detail about these sort of particulars.

Anyway, although I liked the singles that later got compiled as SIngles Going Nowhere, I always thought Garbage Rock and Headburn were harder, faster, better than almost anything out there.  The song  "Headburn" was an epic 3:57 and took all of side one to maximize the loudness on the record.  The other side had two shorter songs that couldn't hit THAT level of greatness, but very little can.   As much as I liked the convenience of Music For Insect Minds, as a piece of art I really feel this band is best appreciated in short form presentation.

You remember the songs that way.
