Crush was first presented to me as a side project of Big Dipper's Gary Weleik. Mark Erdody from Kudgel had a cassette of the band and he was playing it while we were in his car circa 1989 or maybe even 1990. Mostly what stood out was the Crush theme song, but I bought whatever I could find by the band which at the time was this single.
Later on, all this music was compiled and the band was renamed Crush Senior due to a younger band laying claim to the original name. That CD actually sold in this same order, so I'll write about it in due time, but it is getting late in the day and I wanted to lazily write about a single with both songs online for Monday morning even if I haven't picked it up yet from storage. Looking at the lineup today, every name in the band is familiar Boston Rock royalty of the late 80's early 90's. The vocalist was Ron Ward, primarily known for Speedball Baby and here in NYC later with Five Dollar Priest. Bob Weston on bass at the time was in Boston DJ'ing on WMBR before he went to Chicago to be part of the Electrical Studio and Shellac experiences. Drummer Bob Fay went on to Sebadoh for a time. Kevin Salem went on to a solo career and I'm guessing his guitar is some of the credited music on "30/30 Face." What pedigree!
The songs within "Sexy Fish" and "30/30 Face" aren't the hottest of all their tracks but they will do.
A fine enough example.
