Rocking The Forest compiled 1990-91 recordings issued in the US as singles from Sebadoh. The opener "Gimmie Indie Rock" dates pretty badly given it was Lou's ode to J Mascis right after he was out of Dinosaur Jr. for a decade or so. At the time though, it was a favorite 7". I often forget just how much I loved anything Lou Barlow did for the first half of the 90's. I thought this EP was going to get an automatic straight A but perhaps the passing for a third of a century has slightly degraded this music for a start to finish listen. Now that I think about it, this was more a heavy rotation radio record when I was briefly on Record Hospital on WHRB in the summer '92 than something in home rotation even though I do remember paying expensive import prices for this CD that sold under 5 bucks.
Every song on this was memorable for me. Some were favorites at time. The sequel to "Real Insane" done live here certainly was, as well as this version of "It's So Hard To Fall In Love" and the punny "Cry Sis" opened the US 1992 Sub Pop release Smash Your Head On The Punk Rock which also contained three other tracks from this EP including "Vampire," "Junk Bonds" and "Mind Meld."
