Boss Hog's major label shot was one of those records that didn't really affect the bands trajectory in terms of listenability or commercial success.  The cute single "I Dig You" spawned an EP that had a great cover of "12XU," which was a bigger highlight live and on record circa mid-90's than anything on the record.  The lineup had Hollis Queens drumming and Jens Jergensen on bass.  This was an established unit that were great live, but losing Unsane's noise rock rhythm section of Pete Shore & Charlie Ondras altered the musical chemistry of noise rocks favorite married couple not named Kim & Thurston.  The masterpiece era that began with Drinkin' Letchin' and Lyin' and concluded with the Action Box double 7" was long over, buried with Charlie.

New beginnings sometimes were exciting in and of itself.  It certainly worked for the Unsane around the same time.   Somehow it didn't translate to this record.  Spencer was coming off his twin towers with the Blues Explosion.  Orange dominated all NYC East Village bars that had a jukebox in 1994.  Attention was turned to Boss Hog going big time.  Except for some reason it didn't.  You can see I bought this off the shelf at the $10 premium used price right when it came out at Venus on St. Marks Place.  It didn't even have the promo gold stamp on the artwork.  Probably a retail promo.   I couldn't wait three weeks for it to show up in the $3 bin.    I still have another copy on my shelf in storage from a roommates discarded collection that has been up for sale about as long.  It's always a satisfying little victory when you see a duplicate low end title finally get shipped out the door after gathering dust over a decade.

Nothing on this sounds particularly bad or out of character.  I can't place WHY these cuts fall a little flat.  It kicks off fine. Nothin' to lose refrains "Winn Coma."  "Sick" is fine also, a reflection of an excuse not to leave the house.  Boss Hog historically were "collector indie elite" not "straight to the dollar bin."  Unfortunately, despite having the history and being on the scene, this didn't translate to mass distribution, except all the carrier current college radio stations across the United States would then have access to the band too.  Whiteout was the last record in 1998, until the band reemerged in 2016 for Brood X the following year.

Nothin' to lose I suppose.
