30 or so years in Public Enemy can't make a truly bad album. Maybe cycling around old refrains with some new ones in 2007. In the aughts they were cranking out independent titles. This one I'm just hearing now, but I've had other ones from the same period. Everything stays the same...but a little different as we hear in "Amerikan Gangster." A snapshot of the times but that "new generation" is now Old Head and Public Enemy are still with us Older and Headier.
Flavor Flav was a mainstream TV "reality" show celebrity around this time. You can't really fault Flavor for that. Maybe Chuck D shakes his head but the sugar always made the bitter pill go down easy. Flavor actually gives us something with depth on my favorite track on the album "Bridge of Pain." In comparison "Flavor Man" sounds like a rehash, but can you really deny a Funky Flavor? He's going back to the castle--with the armor!
Chuck D would rather be gettin it, than gettin hit, like all of us.
