A little bit of wankery from Thurston Moore with Steve Shelley and Tim Foljahn under the moniker Male Slut. These tracks got issued on the vinyl reissue of 1995's Psychic Heart. Somebody ordered this a few years ago but didn't pay for it, so it has sat in a box with some albums pulled from storage that had the same fate. The lone single in there for years. The was a yellow later Flipper one that was next to it but that sold. Every once in a while, I'd flip through those albums to see if I could be spared a trip to storage for an order and the Priest on this cover would peak out at me asking if he could come out. I would shake my head no. Until now.
The A-side is a 7-minute drone thing doing the dreaded 33 1/3 RPM long track on a 7" side. Glang glang glang glang glang glang. The B-side is much better. As the back cover newspaper shows us, Thurston was quiet the actor in the 1972 Catholic school play Thoodblirsty Thesbians. We see young Thurston hamming it up with a meat cleaver. At first, I was excited that this was possibly a recording of the play or it's highlights but instead it was just sampling of The Entity. I can't seem to find the sampled opening, but this clip is from the final scene.
A Catholic Block, indeed.
