David Bowie revented himself as Bowie for Diamond Dogs. The album is a bit harder rocking and instead of leading a band, he IS the band for the most part, playing guitar on most of the album. The big hit here is "Rebel Rebel" and "1984" I remember hearing on the radio (at least WBCN) sometimes. Maybe "Diamond Dogs" got some airplay also.
My favorites of the record in addition to the title track are "Big Brother" and "Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family." These are tracks ruined by 8-track resequencing as well as the digital realm. The 8-track fades out "Big Brother" abruptly then fades back in for it's segueway in "Chant..." Streamworld doesn't do too much better putting a space between the two songs. Overall, this is among the very best of Bowie's catalog,
Dystopian music for dystopian time.
