The Rykodisc Bowie remasters of the early 90's, as mentioned recently, have held their value primarily because of the bonus tracks that are exclusive to the edition.  Remastering was done later but this one is fine by me.  One thing of note: they truncate the title on the spine to be simply Ziggy Stardust.

When I listened to Station To Station the other month, I was crowning that a potential upset favorite over Ziggy Stardust.  I know I was being a bit ridiculous and reactionary, considering how sick I am of this record in my head.  Or so I thought.  "Hang On To Yourself" and "It Ain't Easy" were a joy to hear: a bridge between T. Rex and early Ramones.  "Moonage Daydream" always sounds good to me also.  The dramatic ballads you know "Five Years," "Starman, "Rock 'n' Roll Suicide" are pleasant sounding enough and my childhood fave, wham bam thank you ma'am "Suffragette City" and of course Rock N Roll "Star" are still enjoyable after all these years.

As for the bonus tracks, well it's weird thinking of "John, I'm Only Dancing" as a bonus track since it was such a central part of Changesonebowie, which was my default pre-teen Bowie. "Velvet Goldmine" came out on a 3-song ep with "Space Oddity" and "Changes" in 1975.  I'm not sure if it appeared before that.  "Sweet Head" was another Ziggy sessions outtake.  They have all been more recently compiled on Rock 'n' Roll Star! which also includes the Ziggy Stardust acoustic guitar/Lady Stardust piano demos and more from the session.  That seems worthwhile to listen to on its own.

Notable as an early crack to unnecessarily expand a classic to what 74 minutes could hold with Bowie Bonds still forthcoming.
