I've had a long history with this Queen Greatest Hits album. I won the album from WBCN in 1984 or so and had to pick it up all the way at a Chain store in Quincy. I think it was called Coconuts. I convinced my Dad to go on the hour trip to the store for a $5 new album. I got a weird coupon that was sent to me. Of course, when we finally found the store, the record was not there, so I had to pick up a record of equal price. I think I ended up getting a Twisted Sister 12" with some live tracks that I never saw before.
Anyway, I found a used copy for $3 shortly after that and that was one of the first things I sold from my LP collection on Discogs after listing all the CD's and 7" singles first. It went for about $15 around 10 years ago and this was before the Bohemian Rhapsody bio flick.
Greatest Hits was hot of the heels The Game and had the "Another One Bites The Dust" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" singles. "Under Pressure" with David Bowie closed out side 1 of the US vinyl edition but didn't make the track listing on this expanded UK issue. I had bought that on 7" when it came out. This particular UK edition of the album expanded i to 17 tracks from 14 adding "Don't Stop Me Now," "Save Me," "Now I'm Here," "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy," and "Seven Seas of Ryhe." On both versioins "Bicycle Race" comes immediately after "Fat Bottom Girls" unlike the reverse order on Jazz that 70's rock radio played back to back. However, "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions" are back to back in the News of the World order. In the US those 2 opened side 2 but on this edition they close out the CD. The US also issued an expanded Greatest Hits in 1992 with completely revised artwork. The original edition was altered worldwide depending on what songs were singles in those territories. Internationally this title has sold 25 million worldwide, 9 of that in the US including 1981, 1992 and 2004 editions.
Altered, deleted and replaced for later Queen compilations.
