The third and final Oasis album with the original band lineup, 1997's Be Here Now, has a reputation for being bloated and overproduced. Listening to it after ignoring it roughly 20 years after purchase, during an overall about face on Oasis where I bought the entire catalog used, I concluded that this is a good rock album with little noticeable foppery. Sure, Liam is a bit of a working-class dandy a little rougher than the Jarvis Cockers and Damon Albarn's of the world. That is part of the charm.
Anyway, what people took as "overproduced" was simply a wall of guitars and not a lot of electronic crap. Marshall and Orange stacks adorn the videos, and it shows. I'm not saying this ain't a pop record, it certainly is in the British Tabloid sense (6x Platinum in the UK, one time over within the first several months of release in the US). The big hits I remember in its day are "All Around The World" and maybe "Don't Go Away." The lead-off single "D'You Know What I Mean" didn't ring a bell at all, nor did "Stand By Me" the final of the 4 video productions of the original 12 track album.
The song that had legs for the band was "My Big Mouth" which surfaced on their last albums tour in 2008-9. I tend to prefer Noel's vocals so "Magic Pie" became the standout track for me.
The hyperbole of disappointment proved false stripped of hype and nostalgia.
