The Yardbirds 1965 American debut led off with the classic Graham Gouldman written title track "For Your Love" which brought in both Jeff Beck and a move away from Clapton's Blues. Clapton played on that track, but it led to his departure. The rest of the album is covers of varying degrees of importance. "A Certain Girl" and "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" are probably band canon classics, but for me "Putty (In Your Hands)" and "I Wish You Would" are also standouts. Clapton is all over this record including "For Your Love" although some tracks were issued in the UK in 1964 on Five Live Yardbirds and as singles. The Beck tracks came out in the UK in 1965 as Five Yardbirds. Like the Beatles and Stones, US & UK releases in 1964-6 were totally different animals.
Every once in a while, when you buy a bunch of 60's records in auction format you get something that you price on the high end. It may move or it may not and the price might fall. In this case, I got over 40 bucks for a record I paid less for the lot it came in. For the act of selling you live for these moments even if you feel a pang of sadness sending a great nice condition Yardbirds album you don't see too much out the door. That said, I played this one once and filed it away until it sold, so it got more listening traction now.
