Merseybeat veteran (The Undertakers) Jackie Lomax got the Beatles Apple treatment for one album in 1969.  George Harrison was the producer for the album.  Paul and Ringo are on it as well as people like Nicky Hopkins, Eric Clapton and Billy Preston.  Jackie complained later on that the actual MUSIC was ignored because of who played on it.

The standout is the George Harrison bootleg classic "Sour Milk Sea."  The title track borrows heavily from "I Am The Walrus."  This CD reissue in 1991 exhausted the singles that were issued including the McCartney produced "Thumbin' A Ride" which was another standout for me.

George loved the "heavy rock" approach of this album that shied away from hits. Lomax put out other albums for Warner Bros. until 1977 then had a comeback of sorts in 2001 with his album The Ballad of Liverpool Slim.  He made it to the 50th anniversary of the Star Club in Hamburg to play with The Undertakers before he passed the next year at 69 of cancer.

This one is essential for your extended Beatles collection.
