The Action Swingers debut was a little bit of a disappointment at the time of release coming after a couple classic singles particularly "Kicked In The Head" b/w "Bum My Trip" but also "Fear of a Fucked Up Planet."  

Ned Hayden's grumpy three chord bark and Julia Cafritz hot off the heels of Pussy Galore in the side woman star role she honed in Pussy Galore were joined by NYC noise rock all stars Pete Shore from Unsane and Bob Bert.  There are some hits here particularly the best song "Hot Rock Action" and the opener "Song."  That would have made a great single A/B.  Unfortunately, this album is stretched with retreads ("I'm Dead" is basically "Kicked In The Head" part 2 only not as good) and instrumental pad outs to get to 33 minutes or whateverthefuck.  There was a 5-song EP after this called More Fast Numbers that blew this out of the water, so you can't say Ned didn't have anything left in the tank the way this album implies.  That said in 1991 this was a heavy home rotation release anyway, but it didn't have legs beyond the era. Listening to it now, I knew it all but really "Hot Rock Action" is the only song from this anyone really needs to put on an East Village Bar mix CD.
