Like most soundtracks, the start-to-finish listenability of Performance fades one you give it the obigatory spin.  Of course peak period Mick Jagger's "Memo From Turner" is the one everybody buys the record for.  That's a great song but don't sleep on Randy Newman's opener "Gone Dead Train."  That is one of the toughest rocking songs he ever recorded.

The rest is primarily atmospheric music.  Ry Cooder delivers a couple by himself and one with Buffy Sainte Marie.  Electronic musician Bernie Kraus, once of the Weavers delivers some out there atmospherics.  The Last Poets give the sort of Last Poet-like exclaimation point you would expect as if they were dropped in there for varieties sake.

I haven't seen the film Performance in a long time.  It's on my short list of films to rewatch.  Perhaps I'll write an addendum to this after I re-see it.

Get it for what it is if that is what you need.
