I had a 10-piece order of 90's noise rock singles and CD's the other day.  9 out of 10 were in my storage space and had been since 2010.  The lone remaining CD was a Swami records comp owned previously by the guitarist Jimmy Fountain that joined this band after this single was released.  It's always shocking when singles from the pile sell after being picked through for over ten years, but every once in a while there is someone that swoops in an buys 10 pieces of under $5 titles.  Good for me, it gives me something to write about here.

When Tulips first started, they were a side band for Mark from Kudgel joining nascent record label founder Mike Hibarger on guitar and his then girlfriend Suzanne on vocals, WMBR DJ Lisa "Gas Huffer" Gassaway on bass and Green Magnet School's Tim Shea on Drums and overdubbed guitar.  Mike & Suzanne went on to different band members as well as the Daviess County Panthers before calling it a day for good.  This record was recorded at Fun City in NYC by Wharton Tiers.

Listening to this today, I forgot about all this tumultuous history until I thought about it for a bit.  The same buyer also bought Tulips' Jack Mag CD, with what I think of as the classic lineup after this initial "Boston noise-rock all-star" approach.  I'll write about that sometime over the next two weeks.  The A-side of this record has the original "Choco Pig."  You guessed it from the artwork, chocolate is her topic, Lord and savior.  It makes her feel good! Yum!!

There are two tracks on the B-side.  The first one can't be streamed, so you'll just have to buy one of the 4 copies left on Discogs or even better hit up Mike himself who probably still has some laying around.  It's probably my favorite track of the three.  The quiet-to-loud with Suzanne railing that she is so sick of it!  The closer has a little Siouxsie meets jangle with some Kudgel-esque scream'n response.

Good record, glad to unearth it after all these years.
