Despite being an album more known for it's cover than the music within, Weekend Warriors went Platinum in the year of it's release freah off the heels of Cat Scratch Fever and Double Live Gonzo. The opener "Need You Bad" was the song most played live followed by "Good Friends and A Bottle of Wine." The only other song to make it out of the 70's was the title track. Once you get these songs in your craw, there is a fist pumping quality that works.
Derek St. Holms is out, Charle Huhm is in and Ted sings lead as well. On this album Charlie sings lead on 6 of the tracks, Ted sings 4: the aforementioned "Good Friends..." plus "I Got The Feelin'," "Crusin'" and the closer "Name Your Poison." Scream Dream is where Ted takes over a bit more. "One Woman" reprises "Cat Scratch Fever." The standout for me is the Charlie song "Tight Spot." It sounds like a good Kiss song, maybe one by Ace.
The pinchpoint editor regaled me with stories of every other kid having this t-shirt in his Ohio high school. This 8-track was sure to be playing as kegs flowed in the woods, 1 million strong in the US alone. The end of the absolute solo commercial peak and the beginning of the drop off.
The guitars still rip and it isn't too slick.
