I finally got to see Taj Mahal live a couple years back on a rainy night in Prospect Park. The show was free and postponed a few days because of the fires in Canada had smoke making its way to NYC making the air unfit for singing outdoors in Brooklyn. At least when it rains you can breathe.
I got this cassette a couple years back in a dollar or two lot of cassettes. This was an 80's or maybe 90's reissue because it had the telltale big side numbers you don't see on Columbia 70's cassettes. When I put it up for sale there were others but mine cleared out the options, so alakazam this tape can be listed by someone for $100. Maybe it will sell for someone at that price.
I don't know if it says anything, but "EZ Rider" I thought was the standout track here and that was his among covers of "Dust My Broom" and "Stateboro Blues." Ry Cooder and Jesse Ed Davis are his band on this. Solid, but I feel like I should dig deeper with his catalog. I straight up don't know it well. It sounds straight up 1967 when it was recorded so maybe I won't find anything better by him. Or maybe I will.
Unassailable quality for sure.
