Kill Rock Starts had a mail order singles club from April 1998 to December 1999 long after it was passee. Until I sold this record, I never realized the club existed. I was a big fan of Quasi Featuring "Birds" from the same year, so at that time everything the band released was an automatic "buy." This continued for exactly one album more in 1999 and then, like the KRS record club, I moved on to other things in the new decade.
This particular single I didn't remember either side from the time period nor did I buy any of the other records in the club. This made it into Other Music new bin, but I don't know if it made any kind of distribution or some critic sold their copy. I did profit a whole 9 cents on base price but in reality, that money is worth $7.33 after inflation.
Sam Coombs sings the A-side and Janet Weiss sings the B-side. "Unto Itself" has the better lyrics asking, "do you want to go down with the ship that is me?" I liked that line and his jaunty reverbed piano, so I'll give that one an 8. "Kiss The Snowman" sounds weighted by a droning accordion but I ultimately like that one also.
Give that one a 7.
