1971 was the year of the Rod.  When this record came out at the end of 1971, Rod Stewart was already a household pop name with "Maggie May" and the album Every Picture Tells A Story.  That he held on to fronting the band all the way to 1975 says something about this unit of Ron Wood and Small Faces core Ronnie Lane and Ian McLagan.  For Rod, the solo hits were interchangable and Faces would play them live.

"Stay With Me" was the big AOR hit that could not be escaped for listeners of Rock Radio but it was also regular top 40 peaking at #17 while the album got to #6.  It would seem mind blowing that such quality of loud Blues guitar based Rock 'n' Roll could achieve this with minimal gloss, but star power is star power and British exoticism always got a pass in the US to do what they wanted.
