"Time to get that beast out of the way" I woke up thinking to myself with 7 titles to chose from for this blog.  Oddly enough, I listened to a vinyl copy of this I had laying around from a recentish purchase.  I thought that was it for a lifetime or at least for the time being, but my double 8-track sold in this weeks large 8-track order.  Having already shipped it, I'm going to have to rely on streaming.  Unfortunately, the main difference with the 8-track sequencing is it takes "Lucky Man" out of the "Piano Improvisations" to open a track whereas with streaming it is clustered in between the two parts, so you can't get the order experience with the playlist.  As usual, you can't get the interrupting fades, so  you'll just have to imaging.  As expected with ELP, their long suites are chopped in half whether Tocatta or Aquatarkus from Tarkus or the 1st Impression from Karn Evil 9.  This is music from the 8-track era not clearly not made for 8-track.

While I like ELP in small doses, I find them somewhat painful to hear at triple album length.  Prog may very well have the audacity to stretch it out, Yes be my witness.  ELP certainly were on a commercial high coming off of a sucessful run of hit albums capped by Brain Salad Surgery.  Why not capture a live show at the bands absolute peak?  It isn't like the rest of the 70's had anything better to offer from this band.  Works, Love Beach and a one-record live release were all nail pullers compared to this.

I dare you to take the 6-side (or two tape or two CD) challenge.
