Eat A Peach is probably the second best Allmans album after Live At The Fillmore East. I first heard this circa 1980 when one of my Dad's guitar students gave him a double vinyl copy to learn a cut from the record. I'll have to ask him what it was, I think it was a short instrumental piece which I guess would be "Little Martha." That same student gave him Led Zep IV around the same time to learn something else. Of course classic rock radio tracks like "Blue Sky" and "One Way Out" as well as "Melissa" made this record finally hit Platinum in the mid-90's after being Gold out of the gate back in '
This CD reshuffles "Little Martha" a bit instead of closing side 3, the split up "Mountain Jam" whose conclusion wrapped up side four is now made whole in it's 30+ minute splendor on the 4th track of the record. An early example of what to do when there are no longer the 22 +/- constraints of a side of vinyl. Through the magic of the compact disc, now "Mountain Jam" can be heard in one shot. Interestingly the original cassette had "Mountain Jam" in one shot on side 2. The 8-track also closed with it covering tracks 3 & 4. As for recent remasterings, the latest worldwide double vinyl came in 2025, the last CD issue came out of Japan in 2020 and there was an SACD issued in 2013 all by Mercury/Universal.
So many ways to eat that peach.
