The lone live record from the Peter Gabriel era, Live was recorded in 1973 on the Foxtrot tour. Nursery Cryme and Tresspass are the albums the record uses it's 5 tracks from.
Side one kicks off from two from the touring album Foxtrot, that openers "Watcher From The Skies" followed by another track from that albums side one, "Get 'Em Out By Friday." Side one closes with "The Return Of The GIant Hedgehog" (the "short one" at least online at 8:14). After a "bass intro" side two opens with "The Musical Box" and closes with the heaviest track "The Knife" from Trespass back in 1970.
This is the sort of band either you love 'em or you don't. I'm not a fan of their megahit era that started around 1983 after they had established themselves as minor pop hit makers and big AOR band from 1976-82 after Gabriel left (unless you want to count The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway which is more of a transitional final statement of the first period). Over the past 20 years I have been acquainting myself with the 70's records. I had and heard most of those on CD and picked up this vinyl copy in a lot about 4-5 years ago. To this day I've never seen Genesis or Peter Gabriel live. It is probably too late to see Phil Collins drum. I did see the Musical Box a few years back, which is the only time I've ever attended a big ticket tribute concert, although that one is far more elaborate in terms of reproducing the original elaborate theatrical sets.
After about 4 listens in the past couple days I still don't have a full handle on it.
