When I got my copy of Rock 'n Roll Over at an early 80's flea market for a quarter, I had Alive II for years. I thought the familiar songs: "I Want You," "Makin' Love" and "Ladies Room" didn't sound as good. "Calling Dr. Love" and "Hard Luck Woman" were Bonafide top 20 hits so they sounded more "normal." This was a Paul & Gene written except for "Baby Driver" which gets written by the cat man. Ace didn't get a writing credit for the first time. Peter Criss might have written the worst song on the album, but he sings lead on Paul's "Hard Luck Woman." Now "Baby Driver" is growing on me.
With the 8-track "Ladies Room" (!) and "Love "Em and Leave "Em" get the fade out treatment. "Calling Dr. Love" had a sequence shift, otherwise the hit would've got the fade. I didn't really remember "Mr. Speed" that well. I remember "See You In Your Dreams" from Gene Simmons' "Radioactive" 7" a couple years later. He re-recorded it after being dissatisfied with the version here.
Nowadays on "I Want You" Ace's guitar solo sounds more rocking than ever.
