Where and When Bought: Kevin Wyzzard Collection

This particular reissue 7" is a bit of a mess on Discogs.  My late friend Kevin Wyzzard gave me some select singles to sell for him and this is one of the handful that remains.  This was part of a 5 single set Juke Box Magazine Présente 5 EVA EP's which contained 4 other 7" EP's of 60's garage bands: one each by Kenny and the Kastaways, The Chocolate Watchband, Bobby Fuller 4 and The Haunted.  Although never sold outside the set, they often were separated in the US.  Unfortunately, I can't ask Kevin if this came with the other records.  I'm sure if he had them, he would have wanted to sell them together since he needed money and he was only trying to get 15 for this at the time.  The set itself is worth 30-60 depending on condition.

Back when Kevin gave this to list around 8 years ago, I'm pretty sure the record was it's own listing.  To make things even more confusing, each record in the set has it's own catalog number.  Somebody decided for purities sake these 5 singles should be rolled together so now all the listings on Discogs over the years are often for one record in the series and the buyer has to ask the seller what one they have.  I had this exact communication.  Hey, I'd like to buy your (vastly underpriced) box (wink, wink) but give what you have priced it at (with a serial number and no notes no less) what exactly is the record you have?  Sure enough there was a seller that had three others in the set going for 25 flat and many had the Haunted listed separately, so I guess this sale made the buyer whole.

As for the record itself, it is classic garage.  It's a bit of a relief to hear some of their music from 1966-7 without having to hear "Dirty Water" for the 8 millionth time, not that that isn't a great Nugget.  The big hit here was of course covered in the early 80's by Minor Threat, "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White."  "There's A Storm Coming" and "Barracuda" are pretty great too.  I noticed there was a big of electric Dylan vocal inflection that you would expect shortly after the time Dylan went electric.

Just another band from LA.
