For those who feel one Steppenwolf compilation is all you need, if you come across this one in the used bin, it will do. It seems to have been replaced by 16 Greatest Hits, but if you aren't going to dig deep you get "Born To Be Wild" and "Magic Carpet Ride" as well as "Sookie Sookie" and "The Pusher."
This album takes the listener all the way up to Steppenwolf 7, which has the annoying but memorable "Move Over." The kid tells the old man to retire. He can't stand in line! John Kay seems to have been off the road since 2018, but at 81 he probably isn't 100% done yet. I last saw him in Worcester in 1984 in the back of the E.M. Lowes balcony theatre. That theatre is now called the Palladium.
The hits are spread out over those 7 albums and singles from 1968-1970. "Rock Me" comes from At Your Birthday Party, "Hey Lawdy Mama" comes from a 1970 single and "It's Never To Late" comes from a 1969 single.
I can't wait in line!
