Since this single came autographed, I thought maybe I bought it when I saw the band at T.T. The Bears in Cambridge at an afternoon matinee. I saw what was supposed to be the last Meatmen tour at the Channel in Boston a few years before and this was the only other time I've ever seen Tesco in the flesh. The Meatmen were a big deal in Boston and I played all the early classics that were on We're The Meatmen and You Suck. Even though I stuck with them through their hard rock records, that release was the one for me.
Speaking of hard rock, I though it was weird that "Kill Ugly Naked" sounded almost like Metallica or something. Then saw that it was from an Obsessed demo from 1985. Crimony! It makes sense though since the Meatmen moved from Lansing to DC in 1983. In this band the other autographers are gutarist Keith "Ironlung" Campbell and drummer Neil Ekberg from Black Market Baby. Second guitarist Tommy "Dog" Cohen and bass player Scotty Slade flesh the band out.
The album Gonzo Hate Vibe was released in 1992, so I'm not sure if the versions streaming of this singles B-side are from there or not. Somehow, I never knew this album was released even as it was reissued in 2007. I guess I really fell off, but if I saw Tesco was coming to NYC I would be there.
1985-1991 were the years I truly cared.
