My old radio partner John wrote back to me after I was extolling the virtues of a recent listen to Deep Purple's Perfect Strangers that "Radioactive" made good use of 80's drums that he played on a recent radio show.  Well there are a couple days for the 2 week window for this episode to stop streaming.  We had a joke that his airplay often impacts the obituary section of the newspaper, but now we can also laugh that this 12" that had been sitting on sale nearly a decade sold with several other mid-80's AOR records.

This version of Radioactive is an extended dance version that doesn't add much to the original version.  The aforementioned drum throbs loudly for close to 7 minutes and the song seems segmented by parts instead of a, you know, SONG.

The flip has a couple 1984 recordings from The Firm at London's Hammersmith Odeon.  They both made the setlist of the 1985 Worcester show I saw forgoing the Husker Du show at Ralphs to see my longstanding guitar god Jimmy Page in the flesh for the first time.  The first was from the Death Wish II Soundtrack, an actual song amidst instrumental soundtrack music.  Chris Farlowe handled the vocals then.  Paul Rodgers made this band a "supergroup."  The other song "Live In Peace" showed up on the follow-up album Mean Business in studio form.  There were no Zep or Bad Company tracks to be heard on this tour, and with only one studio album these songs were crucial to pad out the set.

Crucial at the time to complete my Firm/Page library.
