The Dukes of Hamburg split members and bands in both Bielefeld, Germany and San Francisco. Thielo Piper had started playing and touring on the west coast earlier in the 90's with members of the Mummies, The Astronauts and the Phantom Surfers. This 1998 debut single in Germany arrived the same year as their full length on long running garage label Dionysus. In total a dozen releases came out up to 2015. I preferred to look at this single as a one off obscurity found in the singles bin, but the band kept going.
The A-side, "It's My Fault" reminds me of the Cynics with a little bit of frat rock "yeah-yeah-yea-ah" type vocals thrown in. The B-side is a rev-up distorted version of The Hollies song from their 1964 debut album Stay With The Hollies. I never would've know if I didn't see Graham Nash in the songwriting credit.
A good genre record in a world of many.
