Every once in a while something sells and I wonder why I ever bought it in the first place.  In the case of Plexi, they were short lived but made it on to Sub Pop records immediately after this debut EP.  A band like this seemed to indicate the downfall of "grunge indie" with nods to Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and even Oasis with a noise sheen that winks at Steve Albini.

Normally I don't focus on lyrics but if you are going to take on the topic of being a "Simple Man" you shouldn't sound like a simpleton.  There seems to be a certain vapidness with this that comes to a head in the grand finale "Hollow" that rhymes jello with fellow.  Probably the best track is "Simple Sunday" even with a lazy ambient guitar part, vocalist Michael Angelos at least makes an effort to go into the upper register with his vocals.

Angelos hasn't been heard from since save for an appearance on a Scott Thomas record in 2003 and seems to have gone on to other things.  The other 2 backed Mark Lanegan a bit.  Bass player Michael  Barragan was in a LA band called Drag News around 10 years ago.  Norm Block drummed for Jack Off Jill.

More information than you'd ever need to know about Plexi.
