Sad To See It Go: No
The extreme industrial movement spawned by Throbbing Gristle was still going strong in the mid-80's when this album showed up in my local used bin. When purchased new, some of the proceeds go to animals in shelters and Prevention for Cruelty to Animals. There are no such lofty goals when resold on the used market. What better way to help animals than these aural torture simulations? Industrial without the dance. The real deal.
You get screaming, tape hums, pulses and near silent hums throughout the record. You get black and white photos of animals getting used for experiments and not looking very happy about it. The titles say it all: "Use Humans Instead," "Stereotactic Device," "Necklace Ov Tears" and the grand finale "The Last Breath."
The most "known" act on here, at least to my knowledge, was Sleep Chamber who contribute "Eyes Ov Torture." I saw them live one around 1989, and it was whips and bondage and leather. Oh my! These tracks go by quick enough to make it a interesting start to finish listen, but you'd have to have taste for perpetual psychotic ambience if you really wanted to spin this on a regular basis. Modern primitive island for me was a place to occasionally visit, but I didn’t want to live there. Re/search made a cottage industry book series along those lines. People can fill whole bedrooms with this sort of stuff like anything else. Like anything when over saturated it becomes just another costume identity aesthetic. You have to apply in smaller doses or inappropriate forums to achieve desired shock or even “change.” Otherwise it becomes just another wallpaper ambience, which can be useful at 4 in the morning.
Disturbing for the disturbed, those that love them and intellectual voyeurs.
