Radiohead were one of those bands that I thought were crappy mainstream "major label grunge" when Pablo Honey came out.  When OK Computer became the 90's Alt-Rock version of Dire Straits "Brother In Arms" or Steely Dan's Aja you hear in local hi fi shops record and recording engineers pinnacle of modern music I started to reconsider.  Personally, I thought that one was a bit overrated. Hearing a friend play The Bends after that one won me over to the point I event went to see them at Madison Square Garden around the late 90's or early aughts and bought their albums as they came out through Hail To The Thief before losing interest.

That said there are some excellent tracks on Pablo Honey and over all the record dated pretty well.  My initial misgivings, from hearing the single "Creep" that even the band disavowed, was cast aside from the fairly heavy guitar approach of the opener "You."  "Creep" itself didn't bother me in the least even as I gave this album 4 plays start to finish to get myself caught up.

There are some tracks on here that have a whisp of classic rock.  "How Do You?" has a faint Stones "All Down The Line" coupled with Echo and the Bunnymen.  Echo were always accused of a Jim Morrison fixation and the funny thing is my favorite song on the record, "Anyone Can Play Guitar" has a disparaging look at Jim.   Of course, at the end of the day The Doors are the better band compared to Radiohead.  Radiohead and Echo?  I'd have to think about that one since Radiohead evolved into having a better discography.

This debut sounds much better 30 years on.
