This Between The Lines compilation was a prerelease promo only sampler to the Lifelines box that came in the first wave of CD Box Sets in 1990.  This was back when Reprise still had the right to the Hendrix catalogue before the family took over later in the decade.

I'm pretty sure I bought this one way in a CD dollar bin sometime in the early 90's.  I seem to remember thinking that it was odd that an obvious "collectable" would be in the blowout dollar bin.  It wasn't "that" collectable as 3 decades plus have past and I was still only able to get $6.99 for Between The Lines.

Some of the obscurities haven't been reissued and this format has some BBC announcements and introductions to the material that would never be reissued again.  The "Purple Haze" included within has some lyric changes "scuze me while I kiss this policeman" and "that headache put a spell on me." The demo of "Angel" was a great standout track back then.  It was at the time an unreleased 1968 demo and somehow I didn't really remember it from The Cry of Love.  Also the alternate version of "1983..A Merman I Should Turn To Be)" has some great pronounced effects.

Since this wasn't really meant to be bought, it's tough to give a relevance grade without having the whole box set in hand that is now dropped from the official catalogue.   It should be noted this came after Rykodisc issued the famous "first concert on a compact disc" Live In Winterland as well as BBC Radio sessions that the family reissued into a double disc.  As it stands, Between The Lines a nice little overview with some pre-Experience material with Curtis Knight, live tracks and demos spanning his life.

I would expect the box set to be more of the same.
