Rap meets Alt-Rock was a theme with the Judgement Night film, this continues that concept. This time it's Alt & Nu-Metal meets Electronica of the late 90's. All the heavy hitters are there. I bought it for the Slayer meets Atari Teenage Riot track, which was satisfying. I ignored the rest and when this sold I was dreading spending time listening to this start to finish. I made my first attempt the other night in headphones and drifted in and out of sleep as it played to the end. Today I'm listening off the rip on my computer in a bit more conscious recovery. Or as conscious I can be after 2 straight nights of Circle Jerks/7 Seconds/Negative Approach after a workday with my cracked crown pulled out at the dentist to start day 2. I need more coffee!
Anyway, the ethereal remix of Metallica's "For Whom The Bell Tolls" subtitled "The Irony of It All" was pleasurably cute. The Slayer meets ATR track "No Remorse" did the combo right. Rollins gives a "Family Man" style performance over a Goldie drum and bass track. "Family Man" was riveting because there was nothing under it, this is not. The rest of this is forgettable shit soundtrack music to a movie I never saw. Yes, I even forgot the Butthole's track even as the "Sweat Loaf" "Satan" permeates the Kirk Hammett track. I don't even acknowledge the electronic cohort of these forgettable songs.
I actually bought some of the bands on this in the 90's on word of mouth that surprise me today that I would bother. Not so much Roni Size or Moby, those were genuine curios. I'm talking Filter, Marilyn Manson and maybe even Soul Coughing. Well, maybe not Soul Coughing. I can safely say that I never bought any Silverchair, Prodigy or Korn. The Incubus track is particularly sucky and I can safely say I never forced myself to listen to them.
25 years on hasn't made this any better.
