A "semi-official" release pressed in 1994 from the Jason-Eric-Lou period of Sebadoh full of live tracks from 1992 and 1993. Maybe it's a straight up boot, it can't be streamed. Great for annoying neighbors and friends. This is mostly due to Lou Barlow's tendency to scream with atonal abandon. It never bothered me at the time, in fact "Don't" was my favorite song on Dinosaur's Bug album. “As The World Dies, The Eyes of God Grow Bigger” from III was a clear band breakthrough that also used this voicing. Why his vocal styling got on my nerves listening to this bootleg, I have no idea. It ain't like I've shied away from Barlow’s abrasive tendencies in the general scheme of things.
Thinking back of when I witnessed Sebadoh in this time period, probably Middle East Cambridge before they opened the downstairs and a short lived venue in NYC called The Grand. The recording that opens up the boot seems to bring me back to Middle East years. The only thing I remembered from that intro was the punctuating Sebadoh. Jason. Eric. And Lou.
I will say that the hits on Bakesale & Bubble and Scrape are the hits here. "Homemade Bone" as my friend Mike referred to it is always a joy in many ways. "Soul and Fire," (with the more optimistic "call me if you ever want to start again" alternate ending) "Brand New Love," "Cliche" and a bunch of others I don't associate the title with the song including "Cliche", yet remember the song anyway. Plus "Rock 'n Me" by Steve Miller Band to open the record. Not as great as when I saw this combo do "Free Fallin'" at the Lesbian bar on Mass Ave called Ground Zero. Maybe not even good, but who really cares.
Jason. Eric. And Lou...
