Divine Styler was a Brooklyn based rapper from the conscious boom of the late 80's.  The decidedly "unconscious" Ice-T was the executive producer.  Or maybe he was as "conscious" as the West Coast would allow for his genre.  Food for thought.

On this debut Word Power, there are some strong tracks and some filler. They can acheive "Koxistin U4ria" "The Last House on The Left" is a "tribute" to the nightclubs and scenes they share. It's fuckin' endless at 6:45.  I completely forgot about the track but it stands out now as a period piece.  I don't think a corporate backed label would let it out now.  The track after it was the cut I most remembered, "It's A Black Thing" with the dancehall vocal mix from Cokni O'Dire. His cuts emerge toward the end of the record with "In Divine Style" and "Rain."

"Free Styler" and "Get Up On It" were quality cuts with the East Coast/Eric B & Rakim feel you know and love.  The single or at least video was "Ain't Sayin' Nothing" that opens the second side. 

Sometimes saying nothing says something, sometimes saying something says nothing at all.
