Nice compilation of the career of Free. The best thing about it is that it excludes "All Right Now,” which due to lifetime overplay, is the last Free song I need to hear. Of course, this would not be possible in the United States. This is a European-only compilation that comes to me from a consignment collection.
This doesn't mean Fire and Water material is excluded in these 14 tracks. You get 3: the title track, "Heavy Load" and a live version of of "Mr. Big" from Free Live. You also get 4 from the 1968 debut Tons of Sobs ("Walk In My Shadow," "Goin' Down Slow," "I'm A Mover" and a live "The Hunter" also on Free Live. The 1969 follow-up Free has "I'll Be Creepin'" and "Woman". Highway contributes "The Stealer" and "Soon I Will Be Gone." Free at Last has "Catch A Train." Lastly, the next biggest album in the US (#47 16-week chart run, after Fire and Water's 27 week #17 peak), Heartbreaker has the title track and it's opener "Wishing Well." Of course, most people have all of these albums, but for those who do not and really don't need to hear "All Right Now" for the 8 millionth time, this is a fine introduction before making the inevitable decision to get the complete catalog.
The American commoner will just get Fire & Water and move on to Bad Company.
