Slated to get a heart ablation today to deal with an arrhythmia, so what better topic to write about than the heartfelt music of Smokey Robinson? When Smokey Sings is a catchphrase for a reason. This late 60's compilation opens with a bang: "Going To A Go Go," "The Tracks of My Tears," "I Second That Emotion," and "Ooh Baby Baby.." That's a run of hits whose varied greatness cannot be denied..
Of the rest, only "More Love" was instantly recognizable to me, possibly due to the inescapable Kim Carnes cover 15 or so years later. Of the rest, the best title goes to "Choosey Beggar." The comp closer from 1966, "Save Me" was the song I liked best.
Baseline template of humanity is this.
See you on the flipside.
