Surprisingly I like this record nearly as much now then as a pre-teen when I got it from the Columbia Record Club "selection of the month." Yep, even "Shadows of the Night," which was ruined by Rex Smith on Solid Gold.
Get Nervous in 2021 I find oddly top rate. Perhaps the same reason why it survived the cut when I purged AOR records in the 80's as did the 3 albums before it. Live From Earth and Tropico didn't make the cut. So again, why?
Well, there is a bit of metal crunch on this record. More than I remember. "The Victim" is the surprise track of the album. It made the commercial rock radio chart, but I somehow forgot it's existence until now. It's the song of the record.
Pat was most forward thinking with "The Victim," giving a lecture to those 8 people who may listen to a Benatar lyric that would siren sexlessness, that seethes in desperation and monitoring.
The title track stuck with me several decades. Whisper to a scream. Get Nervous! Get Nervous! Get Nervous!
Shockingly heavier than I remembered.
