Ah, 1996. I spent many a night at Marz Bar and lived on 5th between first and second in NYC. This meant record buying at Adult Crash on Ave A to get singles for my show at WFDU that they didn't have. It's possible that they had this In The Red release. At that time any In The Red release was an immediate buy from the singles bin.
Who were the Hairy Patt Band? Well it was a duo of childhood buddies. Guitarist Jason Drenik went on to be in Granny's Hole who had a smash hit in 2000 with their theme song. Namesake Joe Patt, the drummer, went on to form the Columbus, OH aughts band Them Wranch and later on The Royal Pines. The reason that eluded me was that Joe Patt was once in the Crypt Records band Country Teasers, which I was a big fan of. I sure as hell didn't make the connection in 2021. Normally when I look at a record I remember SOMETHING about it, but this one I remembered nothing, not even that it was on In The Red or it featured somebody from the Country Teasers who were from Scotland, and research says he drummed on tour for them in 2002, long after this single hit the charts.
This record has the feel of band 2 on a 4 band bill, which sometimes is fine when you are scouring the singles bin for something you haven't heard. The sound of two childhood friends being loud in the garage. Nothing particularly mind blowing--distorted and loud. The record itself has an A-side rave-up and a b-side junk blues.
For crud-fi deep divers.
