I had it in my head for many years that Side 1 of Dream Police was perfect and side 2 trailed off in excellence. Upon further review, that seems about right. But then I started liking side 2 just as much. Dream Police starts out like it might be my favorite or at least up there with Heaven Tonight and the first one.
I find it particularly amazing that a "pop" band could be so rocking and still go platinum. "Way Of The World" I somehow forgot about in general ass-kickingness. As kids we focused on "Gonna Raise Hell" and the title track and couldn't escape "Voices."
So what of side 2? Well it opens strong with the Beatlesque ("I Feel Fine") or Monkeesque ("Last Train To Clarksville"). After "Voices" you get a great rocker "Writing on the Wall," a mid-tempo anthem "I Know What I Want" and and 7+ minute closer "Need Your Love."
Solid all the way through.
ED NOTE 5/21/24: Got a cassette of this recently. "Writing On The Wall" is a fist pumper!
